Ever had a leaky toilet? If you haven’t you just might eventually depending on factors such as the age of your home as well as the type of toilet that you have. Having to clean up the mess every time you flush your toilet is one thing. Paying a higher water bill is another. Just because your toilet is leaking, does not necessarily mean that you need a Utah plumbing professional. But we highly recommend it. If you want to attempt to do so on your own, there are a few things that you need to find out. What is actually causing the leak? Perhaps the wax ring is worn out? After flushing, if you see water leakage at the bottom of the toilet it just might be the wax ring.

Unfortunately the only way to find out is to remove your toilet. If you are somewhat knowledgeable about plumbing and decide to do this on your own, you should turn off your water line before inspecting your toilet. After turning off the water line, flush your toilet a few times to make sure you eliminate as much water from the toilet as you can. Holding the flush handle down as you flush might even help to expel more water. Now, (ensuring your water line is turned off first) disconnect the water line from the water supply to your toilet. Ensure that the screws to the bottom of the toilet are removed. Because toilet fixtures are heavy, you might want to have a friend help lift it aside. You should now be able to see the wax ring, which is a yellowish color. Make sure to purchase the correct wax ring by searching your toilet fixture for a model number that could help you find the correct wax ring. Take the ring off and replace it with the new one. Replace your toilet fixture to the correct position on your floor. Ensure the fixture is properly fitted and replace the metal bolts that you originally removed. Ensure water is reconnected and that your water line is turned on again. You can now flush to ensure the job was done correctly. Of course, we highly recommend that you call us for your Salt Lake plumbing needs. Give us a call today!

You’ve decided to purchase a home in a beautiful, well established neighborhood. You’re excited for mature trees, distinct neighborhood architecture, and a home with “character.” But before you move into that older house, you might want to consider doing some due diligence on that home’s sewer lines by calling a Salt Lake City plumber. Doing this can save you untold sums of money. Before you purchase a home, the bank usually mandates a home inspection to protect everybody’s financial interests. Few banks require a sewer inspection. But having one done before you purchase that beautiful 75 year old home is a wise move. This is because in many instances tree roots can actually infiltrate sewer lines over a period of time. It doesn’t start out that way. When trees are initially planted, their roots aren’t large enough to cause serious problems. But as they grow, their roots spread and sometimes eventually crack the pipes, entering the sewer line. As they grow more, they stop pipe contents from flowing freely and eventually cause a problematic buildup that is not readily detectable until too late.
Luckily, modern plumbing technology readily allows some plumbers the ability to verify the operating condition of sewer drains and sewer lines from within the pipes themselves. This is accomplished through fiber optic technology that allows plumbers to enter the inside of the pipe system, while results of the inspection are recorded. From there, a plumber will give direct feedback as to the condition of the sewer lines as well as possible repairs that might be needed. Having sewer lines inspected before a home purchase just might come from the homebuyer’s wallet, but remember that in the long run it just might be one of the smartest investments you’ve ever made. If you have any questions about Salt Lake City plumbing inspections, feel free to give us a call today!

These days it seems like everybody is trying to save money. Blame the economy, right? As inflation rises, so do our grocery, fuel, and power bills. Don’t forget your water bill though, and that’s where proper Utah plumbing and household smart-buys come into play. Take your toilet for example. I know, toilet’s are a taboo topic unless you’re a plumber right? Well in case you didn’t know, toilets are now more efficient than ever and that’s good news for your water bill. You see, in 1992 the government enacted the Energy Policy and Conservation Act. This legislation created new water-use regulations for new toilets, faucets, and even showerheads. The new toilet standard changed from 3.5 gallon per flush toilets (that your parents had) to 1.6 gallons per flush. At the time, the news wasn’t effectively popular, but chances are if you’ve had a home built after 1994, your Salt Lake City plumbing toilet flushes 1.6 gallons of water. At the time that the Energy Policy and Conservation Act was established, there was effectively no guidance or encouragement from government explaining how new toilets should be designed in order to implement the new 1.6 gallons per flush policy. Today, toilet manufacturers have designed models that actually work better than the old models that many people still have in their own homes, but it was a long time coming. Within the past few years studies have been conducted as a follow-up to the energy conscious bill and whether new toilets are better than the older ones. So how would Salt Lake City plumbing supply companies test the new toilets versus the older ones? The analysis would be based upon performance, flush volume, water-spot area, and even the trap diameter. Additionally, sponges and paper were utilized to simulate waste. How much of this waste remained in both older as well as the newer toilets would give researchers an idea of efficiency. So what was the result? The newer models clearly outperformed the older-model toilets, even though the newer ones used 1.6 gallons of water versus the older toilets that consumed an average of 3.5 gallons. When you add up the thousands of flushes per year from your own older-model toilet, you can do the math and realize that there is some serious money saving potential there. Best of all, because Quick Response offers some of the most competitive Utah plumbing rates around, your new toilet makes financial sense. Give us a call today!

We can’t tell you how many times a household wife will call us with a Utah plumbing request, because the husband thought he could “fix” the plumbing issue only to realize that he had caused further disrepair, creating a true emergency. So when is the right time for the ‘average Joe’ to give up and call a Salt Lake plumbing professional? The small issue that you are trying to fix to save money could end up costing you more than you realize in the end. Seemingly easy jobs like replacing a faucet washer, or clearing a drain that is clogged are indeed issues that some homeowners can take care of. However, when it comes to replacing or even clearing household drain blockages, you should rely on a plumbing professional. A seemingly insignificant leak that you think you might be able to fix for hardly anything, could quickly cause significant water damage to your home and cost you additional time- and we all know that time is money. When you decide to hire a plumber, you definitely need to ensure that the plumber has the correct licenses, as well as insurance necessary to perform the job. While you may not understand the complexity of the plumbing industry, realize that it does require a lot of experience, knowledge of city code, specialized tools, and various material experience. This requires a significant amount of time to learn and practice the trade. Entry-level plumbers usually require years of learning as well as on the job experience.
Different plumbers usually handle different plumbing requests. There are different codes for residential Utah plumbing as well as commercial plumbing. There are also plumbers that specialize in emergency service Salt Lake plumbing situations, as well as those that specialize in re-modeling or new construction plumbing. At Quick Response Plumbing, we specialize in emergency and service requests alike yet also have the experience to tackle most plumbing needs. Call us today and we’d be happy to discuss how we can resolve your plumbing issue, or realize your plumbing project.
